[…]\nThe hallmark in the evolution of the Bank of Mauritius has been its institutional strength\, and I can confidently affirm that the measures have reaped the expected results and the banking system has successfully weathered the crisis unscathed.” \nA reality that David Hotte focused on during his presentation on “AML/CFT Developments”\, stressing the need for “tailor-made and context-adapted regulatory and legislative changes in the banking sector.” \n“AML/CFT is an ever evolving matter and countries from all over the world need to be constantly on the lookout for new threats to their frameworks. This is why the EU Global Facility is so strongly committed to promoting a South to South technical assistance where experts trained by the EU GF can subsequently become trainers for their peers and colleagues from other countries of their region (and elsewhere).” \nAs part of its technical assistance to the partner country of Mauritius\, the EU Global Facility provided continuous technical assistance through various training and activities from June 2019 to May 2022. \n????Mauritius was officially removed from the list of high-risk third countries with regards to anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing (AML/CFT) by the FATF[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Sharing of expertise and the participation of Europol in some of the EU Global Facility’s activities were also evoked. \nIndeed\, the Global Facility mentioned its keenness on inviting Europol experts in a targeted way\, depending on the topics and the countries. \nThe exchanges contributed to positioning the Global Facility as a potential technical assistance solution in countries with which Europol cooperates\, and where a need for training on AML/CFT related matters is emerging (ex: Colombia was mentioned). \nThe Global Facility also expressed its interest in joining the Europol Platform for Experts (EPE)\, which could serve as a forum for exchange between police officers trained in the partner countries. \n???? ???????? EUROPOL (the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation)\, is the law enforcement agency of the European Union #EU created in 1998 to handle criminal #intelligence and combat serious international #organisedcrime and #terrorism through #cooperation between competent authorities of EU member states.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
